5 Tips for Keeping Models at Ease

#1:  Relax. People could tell that you are nervous.  Just have confidence when speaking with models and they will feel more relaxed and comfortable.

#2:  Avoid saying words like, “woops”, or “uh oh”, or “that doesn't look good”, etc.  It makes models feel uncomfortable and it makes them think that the shoot is not going well.

#3:  It's convenient for photographers when a model is experienced enough to pose themself. Models can’t read the photographer's mind. Take time to learn how to pose.  Helping your model into basic poses and to give them a starting off point, will help the model to feel more comfortable.

#4:  Show the model some of the photos. Ask the client if they want to be photographed in a different way.  This subtly helps you know how to avoid the things they are self-conscious about in their looks.

#5:  Do not touch the model. Touching can make some people feel very uncomfortable.  If you need to move a piece of hair or the train of a dress, always ask first.
